Chrome Phosphate Pretreatment
Using Chrome Phosphate Pretreatment to Achieve the Best Results
Certified Enameling, Inc. has a reputation for achieving outstanding results in the architectural metal finishing projects that we handle. This is due in no small part to the special prep work steps that we take prior to applying a metal finishing product to any of the items that we receive from our customers. Before an item is ready to receive a coating, it must be properly prepared with a series of steps that includes jitterbug and hand preparation, sand blasting, and the administration of chrome phosphate pretreatment. This is true whether the item is going to receive powder coating, a PVDF coating such as Kynar® coating, our proprietary Cenamelize, or any other type of architectural metal finishing product.
Chrome phosphate pretreatment is a type of conversion coating that is used to change the chemical nature of the surface of the object being treated. It serves to inhibit corrosion in the surface, thereby improving the life and longevity of the coat. It also works as a primer. Chrome phosphate pretreatment is a porous substance, which means that it dramatically increases the surface area on the object. A larger surface area gives the metal finishing more opportunity to bind with the object, thereby making the finishing more durable and creating a much stronger bond.

Architectural metal finishing systems are designed and manufactured based on the assumption that the object being coated will have been properly pretreated. Failure to do so is likely to result in a premature failure of the coating or other types of sub-optimum performance. Our company is known for an outstanding turnaround time, but we do not cut corners. Not only are we committed to ensuring the best possible results in our work, but we also understand it is important to use chrome phosphate pretreatment in many cases to preserve the coating, such as when the treated metal will be used in industrial settings or for marine applications.
Chrome Phosphate Pretreatment and the Environment
As a hazardous substance, chrome phosphate is a highly regulated material, subject to strict rules concerning its handling and disposal. City, state and federal government regulations govern the removal of chrome from wastewater, a process that is elaborate and highly difficult. We are fully committed to complying with the applicable regulations in order to do our part to protect the environment and have received an official acknowledgement for our work in this area. In 2008, Certified Enameling, Inc. received a recognition and award from the Office of the Mayor of the City of Los Angeles for our efforts in industrial wastewater pretreatment and discharge standards compliance. We continue to maintain a commitment to utilizing cutting-edge and green building technology. Bring your work to us if you want outstanding service from a company that is dedicated to preserving the health of the environment.
